April 29th launch date at Campo, Calif--at the southern trailhead of the PCT!
Rabbit and Phantom 6 minutes into a 6-month journey on the PCT. They started at 7:22am PST on April 29, 2005.
In case the large fence separating the U.S. from Mexico was not clear, they labelled it "border" for all of us. Sheesh! These guys have clean but illegal feet!
Rabbit reads that Doodlebug and other PCT hikers signed in about a week earlier. Will Rabbit be able to catch them?
Phantom adds his entry to the PCT trailhead book--see photos tomorrow of his words of wisdom.
You're seeing Mexico through the border fence. Looks a whole lot like southern California.
Here's the border fence snaking between freedom and famine (am not sure which is which). Lots of border patrol.
Rabbit is ready to go--here at the starting point of the Pacific Crest Trail. Temp was a record cool 41 degrees!
The first night sleeping spot at Lake Morena is only 19.5 miles away. Load up that pack, wake up those legs!
Rabbit and Phantom clean feet under the border fence on Mexico. No hiking boots on the PCT--folks like these bettter.
April 29th at 5:00am...Rabbit and Phantom in the lobby of the Loews Coronado Bay resort. Time to pack the car!
Rabbit hanging out with Mike, our first trail buddy on the PCT who was finishing up the California section this year.
Mike shares his home-made lemon liqueur to really get you going in the cool morning at the Mexico border!
