First full day in Portland. I slept in. Ashley made some homemade waffles for breakfast. The foot continued to hurt and it was draining a lot. Maggie, and Lucy in particular, had a strong desire to lick the wrapped foot. Lucy was relentless in her pursuit. The pooches kept checking in on me in my assigned bedroom to see how I was doing.
Off to Costco we went at lunch time. I could have bought all the dried nuts and candy bars in the store! I had the Costco Chicken Bake for lunch. It was tasty, full of fat, and cheap....a thru-hiker's perfect meal. The goal while in Portland will be to fatten me up some. Eric took the day off from work. Ashley fixed us an early dinner, then we saw the early evening showing of the movie War of the Worlds starring Tom Cruise. Great movie! We all enjoyed it and gave it our seal of approval.
I spent some time checking in on e-mail messages and perusing the website. It was really the first time I've been able to view the website without real pressure to give up the computer to other thru-hikers sharing or at a library with limited usage time. It's a great site, and Eric and Ashley have done a marvelous job making it interesting, user friendly, and full of information about my thru-hike.
Tomorrow morning I will find another doctor in town to take the packing out of my foot and re-pack it. Hopefully the news will be positive.
