Ok, so I didn't make it out of Fresno yesterday and the foot hasn't exactly been cooperating with the prescribed treatment. I was thinking yesterday evening at the library that it would make good sense to go see another doctor today for some follow up.
Instead, I slept in. And slept some more. Then I soaked the foot in hot water as prescribed by the ER doctor. Slept some more and kept it elevated. At lunch time I hopped over to the pizza/pasta restaurant and got a large Philly cheesesteak hoagie to go. Came back to the room, ate the hoagie while soaking the foot again, then took my all afternoon nap. The hoagie didn't taste a thing like Philly. Yep, kept the foot elevated while snoozing. While conscious, I took my medicine, just as prescribed on the label.
Evening came and I hopped back to the pizza/pasta restaurant and got some spaghetti in meat sauce to go. Came back to the room, soaked my foot again while eating dinner. Jim Clement called and I told him I'd rent a car tomorrow morning, see a doctor, then drive up and spend a couple days hanging out at his place running his cash register for him to pay the food and lodging costs. He liked the plan. I watched some ridiculous reality show B.S. on TV. Kept the foot elevated all the while. Then I watched a couple of decent episodes on PBS about tomorrow's entrepreneurial heros making a difference in Africa and other developing countries. Great stuff. Made my heart warm and the foot happy for a couple hours. Kept it elevated too. The foot felt like it was back in the Sierras, it was so elevated. Soaked it again, one more time. Popped a happy antibiotic pill. Then I went to bed for the night.
There, that oughta do it. A full day of nothing but keeping the foot elevated when not soaking it, popping antibiotics, and sleeping away the bad memories of the damn thing getting infected in the first place. Tomorrow I'll wake up, the swelling will have decreased, those red streaks around the toe will be back to normal Caucasian skin color, and I'll start working on a ride back to VVR after I visit the doctor and rent a car to tool around in.
